This return shows a considerable decrease in the early years of life, for,
compared with the average record of the preceding ten years, the number
under 5 years was 360 less, of which 255 occurred among infants under twelve
months old, and 105 among children aged one to four years (inclusive).
The number of deaths among infants is the lowest registered for many
years, as the Table on page 13 fully proves.
