OLYMPIA.
During the year this building has been used by
the Military Authorities for the purpose of a store.
HOUSING AND TOWN PLANNING ACT, 1909.
During the year the owners of the properties 20-30,
Boxmoor Street, upon whom Closing Orders were
served, informed your Council that a scheme had been
drawn up before the putbreak of war, whereby it would
be necessary to demolish five or six of the houses in
question, in order to carry out certain railway improvements.
This work had been postponed, and it was
pointed out by the owners that they were unable to
raise capital without consent of the Government. The
owners suggested that the Council should suspend the
Closing Orders, and promised to carry out certain
works which were agreed upon.
The work has been put in hand, and the houses
will soon be in a fit condition for habitation.
Following upon my report on the insanitary conditions
existing at Trafalgar Street, Aspen Place, etc.,
your Council decided to serve Closing Orders on the
properties Nos. 1-12 and 12A-22, Trafalgar Street, and
3-8, Aspen Place. These closing orders were served in
January, 1915.
In October your Council decided to determine the
Closing Orders which had been served on the premises
Nos. 3, 4 and 5, Aspen Place, as the houses had been
rendered fit for human habitation. Nos. 6, 7 and 8,
Aspen Place having been demolished.
Your Council also decided to make Demolition
Orders in respect to the properties Nos. 1-12 and
12A-22, Trafalgar Street. At the end of the year the
houses in Trafalgar Street were unoccupied, and the
work of demolition about to begin.
In February it was decided to serve Closing Orders
in reference to the properties Nos. 1 and 2, Hermitage
Cottages.
