The disease of cerebro-spinal fever (epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis) has

NOTIFICATION OF GLANDERS, ANTHRAX, AND HYDROPHOBIA
IN MAN.
I have received from the Clerk to the London County Council a copy of
the following Order:—
"The London County Council doth hereby resolve and order that
Section 55 of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, with respect to
the notification of infectious disease, shall apply, in the Administrative
County of London, to the diseases known as Glanders, Anthrax, and
Hydrophobia in man."
The Order will come into operation as from and including 26th April, 1909.
This Order will apply to that part of the Administrative County of
London which is situated within the jurisdiction of the Port of London
Sanitary Authority.
MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT, 1894.
Provisions, Health, and Accommodation.
On the 26th April, the Sanitary Inspector visited the s.s. " Pontop," of
Newcastle, official number 118,646, lying in the Royal Victoria Dock, and as
a result of a complaint made to him, he examined the crew's provisions. He
found that the salt beef and pork, amounting to about 175 lbs., was unfit for
human food, 150 lbs. of flour was infested with weevils, and bread made from
the same flour was found to be sour. Seventy pounds of biscuits were found
to contain maggots.
The facts were reported to the Inspector of the Board of Trade, who
replied:—
"I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter addressed to the Chief
"Inspector with reference to sundry provisions reported to be unfit for
"use on this steamer.
"No complaint coming from the crew has reached this office, and 1
"am unable to take any action in the matter.
