During September there was a small outbreak of Scarlet Fever on the
training ship "Warspite," together with an outbreak of mumps.
The isolation hospital belonging to the ship, situated on shore, is unable to
isolate more than one infectious disease at a time.
The Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the Marine Society asked that the
Port of London Sanitary Authority would take the cases of Scarlet Fever into
their hospital at Denton. I consulted your Chairman on this matter, and with
his permission, this was done, the Vice-Chairman of the Marine Society
undertaking to pay the out-of-pocket expenses connected with the maintenance
and treatment of the boys in hospital.
In going to press, I have ascertained that there was, during the year, an
outbreak of Scarlet Fever amongst boys on the training ship "Exmouth,"
the circumstances in relation to which are being investigated.
