The s.s. "Sanuki Maru," of Tokio, from Yokohama, arrived at Gravesend
on the 4th April, and reported having landed a case of cholera at Penang.
All necessary disinfection had been carried out, and the drinking water tanks
emptied and cleansed. No further case occurred. The facts were reported
to the Local Government Board.
The s.s. "Industrie," of Cologne, from Cologne, vid Rotterdam, arrived at
Gravesend on the 14th September, when one of the crew was reported to be
suffering from diarrhœa, and as the vessel had come from Rotterdam, it was
considered advisable to remove the patient to Denton Hospital for observation.
He was kept under observation for a period of three days, but there was no
continuance of the diarrhoea, and he was allowed to leave the hospital quite
well and to join his ship. His illness was probably not unassociated with
some dietetic indiscretion.

YELLOW FEVER.
This disease existed in Brazil, although it is important to chronicle that Rio
de Janeiro and Santos, ports in which Yellow Fever was formerly endemic,
were practically free from it, owing to the recent progress of knowledge as to
the causation and means of propagation of this disease, and the precautions
adopted in connection therewith.
