In addition to the above, Inspector Elward (104/. per annum.) has been
employed as Assistant where required in any of the districts above mentioned.
He is shortly to be recommended for appointment as Inspector under the
Canal Boats Acts.
It will be seen that three additional Inspectors have been appointed
temporarily. These Inspectors have been employed in different districts
from time to time, with other Inspectors and as reliefs—pending permanent
appointment on obtaining the Certificate of an approved examining body, as
to their knowledge and fitness to act as a Sanitary Inspector.
The address of each Inspector for official purposes is the office of the
Authority at No. 51, King William Street, Greenwich, S.E.
(2) The total number of inspections for the year, as might be expected,
shows an increase, being 1,379, as against 1,110 for the previous year.
The number of boats conforming to the Acts and Regulations is 1,289,
or 93.4 per cent, of the total, the average percentage for the previous five
years being 90.3.
In addition to the above, 53 boats were visited, and the cabins found to be
locked, there being no one on board. Inspection was therefore impossible,
and they are not included in the number of boats inspected.
(3) With reference to the various infringements of the Acts —
(a) No unregistered boats were found, and no new boats registered.
(b) No notifications were received with regard to change of master.
(c) Certificates: These were found absent in nine cases, and five in case
the Certificate did not identify the owner with the boat.
