quite centrally situated. A Medical Attendant was appointed to
attend regularly and see any infants who needed his supervision.
For this service, a small honorarium is paid. One or two of the
ladies of the Committee attend weekly, according to a rota
arranged among themselves. Miss Davis, the Female Sanitary
Inspector, also attends each week, and, by arrangement, one or other
of the District Nurses for the neighbourhood. Since the opening
of the Consultation, until the end of the year, there has been a total
number of attendances of over 550 babies, who have been weighed,
and the mothers advised as was deemed requisite in connection
with the health of the child. Should any children appear to
the Medical Attendant to be in need of special medicament, such
as Cod Liver Oil Emulsion, Parrishes' Food, any of the simpler
ointments, etc., and in the warm weather " Trumilk," arrangements
have been made so that any of these articles are supplied at a very
reduced cost, the balance of the cost being paid by the funds of
the Institution. Towards the first year's working of this Institution
a grant of £50 has been very kindly made by the Women's
Imperial Health Association, and arrangements are in progress
whereby any deficit mqy be made up by means of voluntary contributions.
Should any baby or parent appear in need of further
material assistance, one of the ladies of the Committee is asked
to specially visit the home, make any necessary enquiries, and to
that lady is entrusted the duty of seeing that adequate relief is
obtained from one of the Charitable Agencies in the Borough. In
this way it will be seen that an endeavour is being made to hold
out the hand of kindly, helpful sympathy to those of the poorer
classes in our midst who are deserving of special help in any time
of unusual difficulty, and this help, dispensed with the care that it
has been in the past, has been much appreciated by those upon
whom it has been bestowed.
