Typhoid Fever. There were 8 cases of Typhoid Fever
notified during the year, 2 being in East Greenwich, 1 in West
Greenwich, 4 in St. Nicholas, and 1 in Charlton. The ages of the
patients were: 3 between five and fifteen years; 1 between fifteen
and twenty-five years; and 4 between twenty-five and forty-five
years. Of the total number of cases, 7 were removed to the Hospital
for treatment. Ten such cases occurred in 1912, 10 in 1911 and
19 in 1910; the average number for the years 1901 to 1912,
inclusive, being 34.
There were two fatalities from this disease during the year in
West Greenwich.
Nine specimens were forwarded for bacteriological examination
from cases suspected to be Typhoid Fever in character, and of
this number, 7 gave a negative result, and 2 were positive.
Puerperal Fever. Five cases of this disease were notified
during the year, 3 in East Greenwich, 1 in West Greenwich, and
1 in Charlton.
There were 5 cases in 1912, and 8 in 1911; 4 of these patients
were removed to Hospital. There were 2 deaths from this disease
during the year. Particular enquiries were made respecting the
source of infection in each case, but in no way did there appear to
be any common origin.
Measles. Three hundred and forty-four cases of Measles
were notified by school teachers and others during the year, as compared
with 586 during the previous year, and 969, 795 and 497 in
the years 1910, 1909 and 1908 respectively.
The ages and incidence of fatality of the disease were as follows:—There
were 112 cases under five years of age, amongst whom
there were 28 deaths (8 being under one year), giving a case mortality
of 25.8 per cent. Between the ages of five to fifteen years
there were 232, with 3 deaths at this age period, giving a case
mortality of 1.3 per cent.
The case mortality for the whole district works out at 11.3 per
cent.
