that we have 78 intimations to be credited to births which were
registered during the latter part of 1912, or will be registered
during the early part of 1914, as the time allowed by law for registration
purposes extends up to six weeks, whereas that under the
Notification of Births Act is to be within 36 hours.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths registered during 1913 was 1,396,
of which 754 were males and 642 females. The crude Death Rate
for the Borough of 14.31 per 1,000 compares with 14.2, the Death
Rate for the County of London, and 14.3, the Death Rate for the
97 large towns.
In the County of London the lowest crude Death Rates
amongst the various Metropolitan Boroughs were 10.6 in Lewisham
and Wandsworth, 10.7 in Hampstead, 12.5 in Fulham, 12.6 in
Woolwich, and 12.7 in the City of Westminster; while the highest
rates were 15.4 in Bethnal Green, 16.3 in Poplar, 17.4 in Southwark,
17.9 in Bermondsey, 18.3 in Finsbury and 18.6 in Shoreditch.
Locally the Death Rate varied from 6.55 in Kidbrooke, 12.46
in East Greenwich, 12.75 in Charlton, 18.78 in St. Nicholas, to
18.81 in West Greenwich.
