DEATHS.
The total number of deaths registered during 1912 was 1,263,
of which 699 were males and 564 females. The crude Death Rate
for the Borough of 13.20 per 1,000 compares with 13.6, the Death
Rate for the County of London, and 13.8, the Death Rate for the
95 large towns.
In the County of London the lowest crude Death Rates
amongst the various Metropolitan Boroughs were 9.8 in Hampstead,
11.4 in Lewisham, 11.6 in Woolwich, 12.1 in Hackney and
Stoke Newington; while the highest rates were 16.4 in Poplar,
16.8 in Bermondsey, 18.1 in Shoreditch, 18.7 in Southwark, and
18.8 in Finsbury.
Locally, the Death Rate varied from 5.63 in Kidbrooke, 10.88
in Charlton, 11.99 in East Greenwich, and 15.03 in West Greenwich,
to 22.86 in St. Nicholas.

The following table shows the variation in, and average of, the Death Rates in each of the five Districts of the Borough in the five years, 1907 to 1911, compared with the figures for 1912:—

Included in the above total number of deaths in the Borough
of Greenwich, and all of them specially allocated to the districts
of East and West Greenwich, are a total of 39 deaths of sailors and
others occurring in the "Dreadnought" Hospital. Such persons
had no known fixed residence in England, and, unfortunately,
died in the "Dreadnought" Hospital. There were also two deaths
of soldiers in the Herbert Hospital, whose addresses were given
as India and China respectively.
