Number of houses in respect of which closing orders were
determined, nil.
Number of houses made fit for human habitation, 323; or
closed, 28; or demolished voluntarily, 17, without the
issue of a closing order.
Houses Let in Lodgings. Out of a number of such
premises which have been reported to the Committee, it has
been decided during 1911 to register 120, which, together
with the 95 on the register at the end of 1910, gives a total
of 215 premises on the Register of Houses let in Lodgings
at the end of the year.
Six hundred and eighty-two visits of inspection were
paid to these houses during the year, which brought to light
the necessity of cleansing as required by the by-laws in 47
cases, insufficient ventilation in 2 cases, and overcrowding in
1 case, necessitating the service of 50 notices under the bylaws,
whilst under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891,
cleansing was required in 5 instances. Water closets were
found blocked or water fittings defective in 8 cases, and
overcrowding in 1 case, necessitating the service of notices
under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, in 19 cases.
