Epidemic Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis. There was only
1 case of this disease notified during the year, which was in
St. Nicholas. The patient was between the age of one and
five years.
The London County Council made a further order continuing
the notification of this disease for twelve months.
Polio-myelitis or Polio-encephalitis. The London
County Council made an order with the approval of the Local
Government Board, requiring acute cases of these diseases
to be notified for a period of six months during the year. No
cases of these diseases were notified.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum. An order of the London
County Council was made with the approval of the
Local Government Board, requiring cases of Ophthalmia
Neonatorum to be notified in the County of London.
Upon the coming into force of this order arrangements were
made with the Authorities of the Miller Hospital that they
would receive into their wards for treatment any suitable
cases requiring such Hospital attention. Similarly the
Guardians very readily placed at the disposal of the Public
Health Committee beds for the reception and treatment of
cases requiring Hospital attention amongst persons of the
pauper class. For the effectual treatment of cases
which could be dealt with at home under their own medical
attendant arrangements were made for the nurses of St.
John the Divine for the St. Nicholas Ward, with the Ranyard
Nurses for the Parish of Greenwich, and with the
Jubilee Nurses for the Parish of Charlton, that they would, on
receipt of intimation of any case desiring attention, visit the
house as frequently as might be found necessary and earnout
the treatment prescribed by the medical attendant. This
Council also arranged that any doubtful exudations from the
eye should be bacteriologically examined under the same
arrangements as that which holds good for other infectious
