I shall be most happy to hear from you, and beg to
assure you of our hearty co-operation.
Thanking you in anticipation of your kind attention to
and compliance with, this request,
I am,
Yours faithfully,
Refuse Removal. New ash receptacles have been
provided in 347 cases, and 6 complaints on this subject
have been forwarded to the Surveyor for his attention.
Offensive Trade Refuse. The arrangements entered
into with Messrs. Hempleman & Co., of West Ham, still
continues to work very satisfactorily.
Police Court proceedings were taken during the year
against a Bermondsey firm for carrying offensive material
through the Borough during prohibited hours, the Magistrate
inflicting a fine of 25s. and costs.
Public Sanitary Conveniences. The Public Sanitary
Conveniences, Urinals, Fountains and Horse Troughs
situated within the Borough are the same as last year,
with the exception of the Horse Trough, Woolwich Road,
which had to be removed when the tramway system along
that thoroughfare was electrified.
The question of provision of further accommodation in
the way of public sanitary conveniences has been before
the Committee on many occasions. The subject having
been reported upon both by the Borough Engineer and
Surveyor and myself, various sites were pointed out where
these conveniences might be erected, but during the year
nothing definite was done in this matter. During this
current year, however, an above-ground urinal of the
Chalet type is being erected near the junction of Blackheath
Hill and Lewisham Road, on the site of the old
underground convenience which existed for many years
at this spot.
