63
class dwellings. These dwellings are let at an inclusive
rental of 12s. per week. Other similar dwellings have
been also erected by them in the Old Woolwich Road,
bath rooms have been, and are being, provided in many
of the older properties on the estate, with the idea of
bringing the property up to date, and supplying a very
necessary want.
Notices of dilapidation have been served on other
lessees on this estate, and in this way a good deal of work
has been done by this body as landlords to improve their
property and at the same time provide working-class
dwelling accommodation.
The Housing and Town Planning Act, 1909, has been
under consideration, but the question of definitely selecting
areas for its operation was adjourned until this current
year.
Houses Let in Lodgings. Out of a number of
such premises which have been reported to the Committee,
it has been decided during 1910 to register 2 7,
which together with the 68 on the register at the end of
1909, gives a total of 95 premises on the Register of
Houses let in Lodgings at the end of the year.
The difficulty connected with the By-laws for regulating
these premises having at last been settled between
the Local Government Board and this Council, a new
series have been drawn up, adopted, and approved by the
Local Government Board, and towards the latter part of
the year a lady Sanitary Inspector was appointed, one
of whose duties being to specially take in hand the
question of registration of this class of property, and up
to the present time a good deal of work has been done
in this connection.
