Royal Hill, Greenwich.
April, 1910.
To the Mayor, Aldermen, and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit herewith, in accordance with the
requirements of the Local Government Board, the Annual Report
of the Medical Officer of Health for the year 1909.
The mortality statistics for the year are again of a very

slightly below that of the County of London, which figure was
24.2 per 1,000. The recorded Death Rate of 12.24 per 1,000 of
the estimated population, compares favourably with 14.0 per
1,000, the Death Rale for the County of London, and with 14.7
per 1,000, the figure for the 76 large towns.
Comparing Greenwich with the other Metropolitan Boroughs
according to their corrected Death Rate, which is the fairest
method of comparison, shows that Greenwich has the lowest
Death Rate but 3 amongst the 29 Metropolitan Boroughs. The
3 Boroughs having a better Death Rate than Greenwich being
Hampstead, Lewisham and Stoke Newington. Full particulars
of all the Boroughs, in this respect, are to be found in the table
on page 18.
The Infantile Mortality Rate, for the Borough, measured by
the number of deaths under one year to 1,000 births registered,
was 102, a decrease of 18 compared with last year ; the figure for
