Typhoid Fever. There were 28 cases of Typhoid Fever
notified during the year, 8 being in East Greenwich, 10 in West
Greenwich, 2 in St. Nicholas, 4 in Charlton, and 4 in Kidbrooke.
The ages of the patients were: 5 between one and 5 years, 2
between five and fifteen years, 7 between fifteen and twenty-five
years, and 14 between twenty-five and sixty-five years. Of the
total number of cases, 24 were removed to the hospital for treatment.
Thirty-four such cases occurred in 1908, and 18 in 1907 ;
the average number for the years 1901 to 1908 inclusive, being 44.
Of the total number removed to the Hospital for treatment
nine cases, however, were returned, as in the opinion of the
Medical Superintendent not suffering from Typhoid Fever, 1
being considered to be suffering from Broncho-pneumonia,
1 Enteritis, 3 Pneumonia, 1 Pleurisy, 1 Colitis, 1 Pelvic Tumour,
1 Suppurative Salpingitis.
There were 3 fatalities from this disease during the year,
1 belonging to East Greenwich, 1 to West Greenwich, and 1 to
St. Nicholas.
Twenty-one specimens were forwarded for bacteriological
•examination from cases suspected to be Typhoid Fever in
character, and of this number 17 gave a negative result, and 4
were positive in character.
