INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality, measured by the deaths of children
under one year of age to the number of births registered, was 102
per 1,000 births, being the lowest figures as yet recorded for this
Borough, there having been a total of 251 such deaths during
the year, as compared with 310, 259, and 320, the figures for
the three preceding years. The number for the County of
London was 108 per 1,000 births.
The lowest rates of Infantile Mortality amongst the Metropolitan
Boroughs were 74 per 1,000 births in Lewisham, 75 in
Hampstead, 80 in Stoke Newington, and 82 in Woolwich; whilst
the highest were 120 in Hammersmith, 129 in Bethnal Green
and Poplar, 131 in Finsbury, 138 in Bermondsey, and 140 in
Shoreditch.
Locally, the variations were from 59 per 1,000 births in
Kidbrooke, 97 in West Greenwich, 100 in East Greenwich, 105 in
Charlton, and 129 in St. Nicholas; the following table compares,
at a glance, these figures for the years since the formation of the
Borough :—
