Isolation Shelter. This shelter was used on 1 occasion
during the year for the usual period to accommodate persons
displaced for purposes of disinfection.
Contacts. Intimation was received from the Medical
Officers of Health to the various Port Sanitary Authorities on 14
occasions during the year in this connection, on seven occasions
with respect to persons coming to an address in this district from
a vessel from Russia where cases of cholera had developed, and
on seven occasions from vessels which had had a small-pox case
on board. Each of these persons was kept under observation.
Glanders. Under the recent order making Glanders in
Horses notifiable to the Local Authority there have been during
the year seven different outbreaks notified. Enquiries have been
made in each case, but no human Glanders has appeared to
result therefrom.
Consumption. During the year there were 107 cases of
Consumption voluntarily notified, 39 being in East Greenwich,
34 in West Greenwich, 24 in St. Nicholas, and 10 in Charlton.
Of this number 21 cases were under treatment in an Institution.
The ages of the patients were, 1 under I year of age, 2 between
1 and 5 years, 13 between 5 and 15 years, 1G between 15 and 25
years, 70 between 25 and 65 years, and 5 over 65 years.
Thirty-one specimens were forwarded by Medical Practitioners
for bacteriological investigation from patients suspected
to be consumptive; 24 were reported to be negative, and
7 positive.
Disinfection has been offered and carried out in 77 cases,
including 84 rooms and 89 articles of bedding, &c.; disinfectant
has also been supplied to patients to disinfect sputum, &c.
