total of 120 such deaths. Valvular diseases of the heart were
responsible for 101; 5 each from Aneurism and Embolism, 3
from Phlebitis, and from the remaining diseases of this system, 6.
Respiratory System. Two hundred and one deaths
were due to diseases of the respiratory organs, as compared with
234 in the preceding year. The death rate under this heading
equals 1.81 per 1,000. 39 were from acute and 49 from Chronic
Bronchitis; 97 from the various forms of Pneumonia, 51 being
under 5 years of age; 4 were from Laryngitis, 5 each from
Asthma and Pleurisy, and 2 from the other diseases of the
respiratory system.
Digestive System. There were 104 deaths from diseases
of this system, equal to a rate of 0.94 per 1,000. Enteritis was
responsible for 37, 32 being under 5 years of age; 7 were due
to diseases of the stomach, 9 to Ulcer of stomach and duodenum,
3 to Appendicitis, 25 to obstruction or other diseases of the
intestine, 10 to Cirrhosis and 4 to other diseases of the liver, 6 to
Peritonitis, and 3 to the other diseases of the digestive system.
Lymphatic System. There was one death from diseases
affecting this system.
Urinary System.—Thirty-eight deaths, equal to a rate of
0.34 per 1000, occurred from diseases affecting this system, 23
were from Bright's Disease, 5 from Acute Nephritis, 7 from
diseases of the Bladder and Prostate, and 3 to other diseases of
urinary system.
Reproductive System. Diseases of the generative organs
were the cause of two deaths, and a similar number are ascribed
to diseases of Parturition.
Bones and Joints. There were two deaths from diseases
of bones and joints.
