INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality, recorded by the deaths of children
under one year of age to the number of births registered, was 120
per 1,000 births, there having been a total of 310 such deaths
during the year, as compared with 259, 320 and 318, the figures
for the three preceding years. The number for the County of
London was 113 per 1,000 births.
The lowest rates of Infantile Mortality amongst the Metropolitan
Boroughs were 69 per 1,000 births in Hampstead, 86 in
Lewisham, 92 in the City of London and Stoke Newington, and
94 in Woolwich; whilst the highest were 130 in Stepney, 131
in Southwark, 132 in Bethnal Green, 133 in Finsbury, 139 in
Shoreditch, and 144 in Bermondsey.

Locally, the variations were from 111 per 1,000 births in East and West Greenwich, 130 in St. Nicholas, 133 in Kibrooke, and 154 in Charlton; the following table compares, at a glance, these figures for the years since the formation of the Borough:—
