In addition to these disinfections there were 163 articles

(c) Public Library Books.—During the year, 323 books from
homes in which infectious diseases had occurred were disinfected.
Of this total, there were 280 books which had been borrowed from
the Hackney Borough Library and 43 from other Libraries. The
method of disinfection practised is to expose the open books in
a closed chamber to the action of formic aldehyde gas, which is
generated in a lamp from formalin tablets.
