2. Public Health (Tuberculosis in Hospitals) Regulations, 1911.
Under these regulations 464 notifications were received by me
during the last 8 months of the year, the. period during which the
regulations were in force. Of this total 57 had been previously
notified under the Poor Law Regulations and 85 were duplicates
of notifications received during the 8 months mentioned. The
remaining 322 primary cases had their age and sex distributed as
follows:—

Age and Sex of Cases Notified from Hospitals.

Ages-Under 15 years.15 to 25 years.25 to 35 years.35 to 45 years.45 years and upwards.Totals.
Males1140404039170
Females1232662022152
Totals23721066061322

Further, 28 of these cases died during the year, 5 in hospitals
and 23 at private addresses.
Enquiries were made during the year in relation to each case
notified under the " Poor Law Regulations " and the " Hospitals
Regulations" as to the following circumstances : occupation;
housing accommodation; sleeping arrangements; precautions
refpecting expectoration; use of separate eating and drinking
utensils; ventilation. Where any of the above were found to be
such as to promote the danger of infection, steps were taken as
far as legally possible to alter them.
Measures taken during the year.—In general, these were the
same as those specified in my Report for the year 1909, except
that during last year on my recommendation the Public Health
Committee resolved to supply sputum flasks to those tuberculous
patients in the Borough needing them.
The number of flasks as supplied gratuitously during 1911
was 20.
The following table sets out in detail the Sanatorium and
Hospital Accommodation provided by the Hackney Board of
Guardians for Poor Law Cases of Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
