ing of the Working Classes Act, 1890, a copy of the
official representation with regard to the Brady Street
area referred to in the foregoing resolution (a) will
be sent to the Local Government Board, together with
the Council's reasons for not acting upon it.
The communication was referred to the Public Health
Committee, by whom the following report was presented:
Brady Street Area.
We have considered a communication from the
London County Council stating—
(a) That the Council, after considering the
representation dated the 4th April, 1912, made by
the medical officer of health of the Metropolitan
Borough of Bethnal Green with regard to the Brady
Street area, is not at present prepared to undertake
an improvement scheme under Part I, of the Housing
of the Working Classes Act, 1890, in view of the
fact that further legislation on the subject is practically
certain at no distant date, and that such
legislation will in all probability enable the area and
other similar areas to be dealt with in a more
satisfactory manner, and at less cost to the ratepayers
than is the case under the present law.
(b) That, in pursuance of the provisions of
section 10 of the Housing of the Working Classes
Act, 1890, a copy of the official representation with
regard to the Brady Street area referred to in the
foregoing resolution (a) will be sent to the Local
Government Board, together with the Council's
reasons for not acting upon it.
For the information of the Borough Council a copy
of the report of the Housing of the Working Classes
Committee in question was sent.
