REPORT.
To the Mayor, Aldermen & Councillors of the
Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green.
Sir and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to place before you my
thirty-eighth annual report on the vital and mortal statistics
of the Borough of Bethnal Green. This is for the
registration year 1913, which terminated on the third day
of January, 1914.
POPULATION.
The Registrar-General estimates the population of
the Borough for the year under consideration at 127,824,
161 fewer than the estimate for the previous year; this
estimate assumes that the diminution in our numbers has
continued at the rate obtaining during the last intercensal
period, and it must be accepted as correct in the absence
of more exact information, although it presupposes an
enormous emigration. The actual number of births in
the Borough during the year exceeds the deaths by nearly
two thousand, and should represent the natural increase in
the population, were it not more than counterbalanced by
emigration. Table A shews these details and compares
them with the corresponding figures of the previous year.
