Factories, Workshops, Workplaces and Outworkers.
These premises were regularly visited during the year.
Special attention was paid to sanitary accommodation for
persons employed.
In three instances the w.c. accommodation was found to
be insufficient for the persons employed, and in 77 cases the
accommodation was unsuitable or defective.
In each instance the defect has been remedied.
The registers dealing with the above have been kept well
up-to-date, as will be gathered by the perusal of the following
paragraphs relating to the various classes of premises coming
within the scope of the Factory and Workshop Act.

Factories include all places in which mechanical power is
used in aid of the manufacturing processes.
The number of factories on the register at the end of the
year, including bakehouses and laundries, was 127, involving
280 rooms. 148 inspections were made and three written
intimations served.
workshops.
Workshops include any premises (not being factories) in
which manual labour is exercised by way of trade, or for
purposes of gain in, or incidental to, the making, altering,
repairing, finishing or adapting for sale of any article, and to
or over which the employer of the persons working there has
the right of access or control.
The number of workshops on the register at the end of
the year was 273 (including bakehouses and laundries and
domestic workshops) with 421 rooms.
