Area and Population.
Acres. Estimated Population.
1563 ... 109,475
The population of the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford
at the census taken April 3rd, 1911, was 109,498.
The estimated population to the middle of the year 1911,
based on the results of the above census and that of 1901,
was 109,475.
The estimated population for each of the various wards
based on the results of the Census of 1901 and that of 1911, was
as follows:—
East 22,272 S. 12,268
N. 24,759 S.E. 12,051
N.W. 23,835 S.W. ... 14,290
As the Borough has an area of 1563 acres, the density of
the population on this estimate is 70 per acre.
The following table shows the total number of dwelling houses and the number occupied and unoccupied in 1901 and 1911 respectively:—
Year. | HOUSES. | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Inhabited. | Uninhabited. | Building. | Total Number of Dwelling Houses. | ||
In occupation. | Not in occupation. | ||||
1901 | 15,823 | 229 | 195 | 92 | 16,339 |
1911 | 16,466 | 280 | 195 | 16 | 16,957 |
Taking the number of occupied houses for 1911 as set
forth in the above table, viz., 16,466, and supposing the
average number of persons per house to be 6.6, instead of 7 as
stated in the previous reports, the population would be 109,498.
With the prevention of overcrowding and the lessening of the
number of families per house which we hope to bring about,
6.6 will become a more correct factor in future years.
