In addition many of these streets had deaths from other forms
of tuberculosis-so that the above list is not the full record of the
total number of deaths in Finsbury due to Tuberculosis. And
the list shows what a formidable canker the disease is in the
Borough; very few streets, if any, are free from it.
How best to deal with it is at present a matter of great difficulty,
and the position is further complicated by the continual
stream of fresh cases, not Finsbury cases, who enter the Borough,
attracted, it is asserted, by the many charitable and philanthropic
agencies in the district and the facilities for obtaining cheap
lodging and cheap food.
One issue at all events seems tolerably clear: it will probably
be undesirable for Finsbury to undertake the solution of the work
independently of the other metropolitan Boroughs. London
should unite as a whole and begin to fight the scourge in earnest.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES.
1.—Every death and every notified case is visited, and appropriate
advice given both to those affected and to those exposed
to infection.
Missed cases and unrecognised cases are sought for both in the
family of the case under notice and in the other families in the
same house.
