INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The corrected number of births of Finsbury children for 1909
is 2,857. In the same year 366 children died, under one year of
age, and belonging to the Borough. The infantile mortality for
any year is obtained by multiplying the number of deaths under
one year by 1,000 and dividing the result by the number of births
for that year. It is a measure of the number of deaths under
one year, per 1,000 births.
The infantile mortality of the borough for 1909 is 128; put
properly this means that out of every 1,000 children born during
the year 128 died before reaching their first birthday.
The corresponding figures for preceding years are annexed :—
Year. | Corrected Births. | Corrected Deaths. | Infantile Mortality. |
---|---|---|---|
1901 | 3,254 | 533 | 163 |
1902 | 3,191 | 558 | 174 |
1903 | 3,162 | 503 | 159 |
1904 | 3,095 | 522 | 168 |
1905 | 2,886 | 429 | 148 |
1906 | 3,012 | 474 | 157 |
1907 | 2,884 | 368 | 127 |
1908 | 2,916 | 400 | 137 |
1909 | 2,857 | 366 | 128 |
It will be seen that the figure for 1909 is practically the same
as that for 1907, and that these two results are lower than they
have ever been since the Borough was incorporated in 1901.
