were received during the year.

The number of workshops and workplaces on the Register at the end of the year was 2,039, made up as follows:—

The other workshops, not mentioned in detail, are with changes
more or less as they were last year.
The numbers for previous years were 1900, 1,266; 1901, 1,356;
1902, 1,374; 1903, 1,651; 1904, 1,745; 1905, 1,859; 1906, 1,843;
1907, 1,923; 1908, 2,059.
A register of Factories is kept in the Public Health Department.
This register, though not a statutory requirement, has proved
extremely useful.
