I—25
Compared with last year, Table No. 3, relating to home work,
has been enlarged in its scope by the addition of other trades, but
none of these are carried on in Camberwell.
There were no instances during the year where outwork was
going on in infected premises. There was, however, a notification
in a house where the occupier had a child who was attacked by
scarlet fever, and from her disposition the parents were afraid of
serious risk if she were removed to a hospital. As the trade carried
on at the bottom of the house was that of a furrier, I pointed out to
the people that it meant stopping the trade carried on there or
having the child removed to hospital. The latter course was
eventually decided upon; and, not without some trepidation, I
undertook the disinfection of the furs, which amounted in value to
several hundreds of pounds, as they had been in the house some
days. The work, however, was successfully carried out, the furs
returned to their owner, and after the house had been disinfected
work was resumed.
There were 1,202 inspections of outworkers' premises, compared
with 1,263 in 1910.
