To the above figures must be added the annual cost
of maintenance, cleaning and repairing of the burners,
including renewal of mantles, which for the year works out
at 7s. 6d. per lamp. This work is performed by the
lamp-lighters in the employ of the Gas Companies. The
materials required for the lamps being issued by the
Council to the men weekly.
