During the past four years a good deal of attention has been
devoted to this subject by the Health Committee, and in that period
sixty-five ventilating shafts have been erected by the Council in
various parts of the Borough. The problem of the ventilation of
sewers is, however, a difficult one and has been dealt with by me
in past annual reports.

There is also a structure at the rear of 55 Cabul Road,
occupied by a Mr. Sprat.
These vans are frequently inspected by night as well as day.
Twenty vans were found to be overcrowded during the year, and
notices were served where necessary.
Only two cases of infectious disease were notified from van
dwellings during the year.
