Report on the sanitary condition of the Hackney District for the year 1909

premises for the remedy of which notices were served. No
further action was required, the defects being immediatelyremedied.
At the end of 1909 there were 138 ice cream premises
on the Register.
GLANDERS AND FARCY ORDER, 1907.
During 1909 I received notification from the Veterinary
Inspectors of the London County Council of 12 cases of glanders
in animals in the Borough of Hackney under the above Order.
In each case I had the premises inspected, made enquiries as to
the possibility of contagion spreading to the stablemen, etc.;
but in no case did it appear that the disease had been conveyed
to human beings.
HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACTS, 1890-1903.
No representation was made to the local authority under the
above Acts during the year 1909.
THE RIVER LEA.
Owing to the low atmospheric temperature of the summer
months of 1909, there was an absence of complaints of nuisance
from this river.
