We would also point out that the Borough of Hackney
stands alone of all the Metropolitan Boroughs in having two
inspectors devoted solely to house-to-house inspections; and
in only two other Metropolitan Boroughs has one such officer
been appointed.
The following gives the number of house-to-house inspections
made in the Borough during the five years referred to:—
1904 571
1905 954
1906 1,325
1907 1,043
1908 1,554
and it will be found that during the current year the figures
of 1908 will be exceeded. These inspections are made, it must
be remembered, in the working class districts of the Borough.
From a consideration of the whole of these facts, your
Committee are of opinion that the petitioners have been grossly
misled as to the attention given to the sanitary requirements
of the working class districts, and as to the necessity for an
extension of the house-to-house inspections in the Borough, and
We Recommend—
That no action be taken with respect to the petition, and
that the reference to your Committee thereon be discharged.
