I beg to report further that on the 8th instant I received
the following communication from Mr. E. C. Fairchild:—
"13, Clifden Road, Clapton, N.E.
"19th April, 1909.
"Dear Sir,
"In the report on insanitary properties in Hackney presented
by the Social Democratic Party to the Special Committee
of the Borough Council on November 23rd, 1908,
and signed by Mr. A. Inkpin and myself, we state that 41,
Dyssell Street is in a condition injurious to the health of
the inhabitants.
"We beg to state that the number intended is 4, not 41,
which was erroneously introduced into the report.
"I am,
"Yours faithfully.
"(Signed) E. C. Fairchild."
I immediately caused an inspection of No. 4, Dyssell Street
to be made, and below will be seen the report of the Inspector
upon the sanitary condition of the premises, together with the
statement as to its condition made by the Social Democratic
Party.
No. 4, Dyssell Street.—Report of Social Democratic Party—
The kitchen here apparently has been patched up, the repairs
are incomplete. A new stove is wanted upstairs, plaster
and paper is falling. New ceilings wanted in the top front room
where paper is hanging from the walls. Sash cords gone. The
daughter of the woman in the house is to be married after Christmas.
She has asked for the rooms to be done up as she would
not like her son-in-law's relations to see the house as at present
The landlord may do the front room. The stairs here are very
much decayed.
