12. 22, Dyssell Street.—Admissions could not be obtained
at this house as the landlady thought the investigators were
officials of the Borough Council, and very forcibly expressed her
opinion of such persons. There is a large hole in the passage
immediately in front of the street door.
13. 26, Dyssell Street.—New stove wanted, no door to
copper, concrete and brickwork perished, no outlet to sink, no
drawer in dresser and no place to store food, sash cords broken,
windows cannot be opened unless propped up. Back room door
needs re-hanging. The seat of w.c. is dilapidated. closet flooded,
the paving of the yard is broken as also are windows.
14. 18, Dyssell Street.—New hearth wanted, floors decayed,
ceilings should be whitewashed. Paint is dirty. New
copper needed. The kitchen window is shattered. Cement
floor of back passage is broken, cupboard at each end unusable
and new ceiling is wanted over this passage.
15. 41, Dyssell Street.—The kitchen here apparently has
been patched up, but the repairs are incomplete. A new stove
is wanted upstairs, plaster and paper is falling. New ceilings
wanted in the top front room where paper is hanging from the
walls. Sash cords gone. The daughter of the woman in the
house is to be married after Christmas. She has asked for the
rooms to be done up, as she would not like her son-in-law s
relations to see the home as at present. The landlord may do
the front room. The stairs here are very much decayed.
