WHOOPING COUGH.
The return of 74 deaths is the lowest registered in the Borough for very
many years, indeed, it is doubtful if since 1851 there have been so few.
The figures for each year are not available, although those for each decennium
are, and they show that between 1851-60 the deaths averaged 102; between
1861-70, 173; between 1871-80, 286; between 1881-go, 207; and between
1891 and 1900, 170 per annum ; while during the five years 1901-05 they have
averaged only 116.
