viii.
The report deals fully with the work of the department, which grows
with each succeeding year larger and more important, and I trust its perusal
will lead to an appreciation by the members of the Council, so many of whom,
now for the first time, become acquainted with it, of its great importance to
the community.
I cannot conclude without thanking the members of the Public Health
Committee for the kindly manner in which they have received my reports and
suggestions, and saying that it has been a great pleasure to me to work
with men whose greatest anxiety has been the health and welfare of the
Borough.
I must also thank my colleagues in the Public Health Department, who,
from Mi". J. R. Leggatt downwards, have always endeavoured to afford me
every assistance, and to render my task as light as possible.
I am. Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
Medical Officer of Health.
