MARRIAGES.
The number of persons married in the borough during 1906 was 5,928, as
against 5,968 in 1905, 5,896 in 1904, 6,106 in 1902, and an average of 6,097 in
the preceding ten years. The marriage-rate (that is to say the persons
married rate) was in the proportion of 17.18 per 1,000 of the population, as
compared with 17.40, 17.29 and 18.00 in the three preceding years, and a mean
rate of 17.67 in the ten years 1896-1905.
The marriage-rate was the lowest since 1895, when it was 15.97 Per 1,000
inhabitants. It varied considerably in the several quarters, being as low as 9.34
per 1,000 in the first quarter, 18.69 in the second, 21.68 in the third, while it
fell to 19.01 in the fourth.
