8. It is manufactured from special water, and hence it has been manufactured only in Scotland and Ireland because it was found that in those countries only was the water suitable. It is never manufactured abroad, and hence Scotch and Irish Whiskeys are in great demand throughout the world.8. It is manufactured from any water, and hence it can be made anywhere — Germany, France, England, America. It is exported and sold as Scotch or Irish Whiskey to the detriment of the legitimate trade.
9. It is distilled at least twice (as in Scotland) or 3 times (as in Ireland).9. It undergoes only one distillation.
10. The Pot still is a still which is heated directly by fire in a large pot with a swan neck through which the spirit passes over. It requires more attention and more labour to manipulate it, and its work is intermittent.10. The Patent Still is a complicated apparatus in which steam is brought into contact with the mash in a series of trays and it produces an almost pure alcohol, for which purpose it was invented, and in which pure alcohol is manufactured for commercial purposes. Its work is continuous.
