REMOVAL OF DUST.
There can be no doubt that the removal of dust from the houses in Islington
is performed in a very satisfactory manner as judged by the number of
applications made for its removal during the year 1906, in which period they
were only 58 as compared with 89 in the preceding year. This is a very
different tale from that which prevailed in 1891, and, indeed, up to 1896, for in
the former year 10,138 requests were made to empty ashpits and dustbins, and
in 1896, 4,245. Thenceforward the numbers rapidly decreased, so that in 1897
there were only 312, and in 1898, 303; and so on until in 1906 there were as
few as 58. The following statement is of interest as showing the improvement
that has been effected in the removal of dust since 1891.
Applications to Remove Dust. Applications to Remove Dust.
1891 - 10,138 1899 - 262
1892 - 9,964 I900 - 234

1897 - 312 1905 - 89
1898 - 303 1906 - 58
It is interesting to note that: the applications in 1906 barely exceed £ per
cent, of the properties assessed in the Borough.
Dust Receptacles provided.—During the year 772 receptacles were
provided under notice by the owners of houses, while 116 were repaired.
