Aged Pilgrims' Asylum, 1 in St. Pelagia's Creche, 3 in the Tufnell Park
Nursing Institution, 1 in the Drovers' Almshouses, 2 in the London Fever
Hospital, 5 in the Memorial Cottage Hospital, 1 in the Bookbinders' Asylum,
1 in the Clothworkers' Almshouses, and 1 in St. Andrew's Nursing Home.
There were also six deaths in Holloway and Pentonville Prison Infirmaries.
Non-residents.—Of the 564 deaths of non-residents, 357 died in the
Holborn Union Infirmary, 92 in the Great Central Hospital, 32 in the Workhouse
Infirmary, 6 in the London Fever Hospital, 9 in the Aged Pilgrims'
Asylum, 29 in St. Pelagia's Creche, 4 in the Memorial Cottage Hospital, 5 in
the Aged Blind Home, 6 in the Invalid Home, Aubert Park, 5 in the
Metropolitan Benefit Asylum, 3 in the Invalid Home, Highbury Terrace, and
1 in the Dyers' Almshouses. There were also 8 deaths in the Holloway and
Pentonville Prison Infirmaries.
Without the Borough.—653 persons, of whom 405 were males and
248 females, residents of Islington, died in Institutions outside the Borough.
Of these deaths 38 occurred in the North-Western Hospital, 1 in the Eastern
Fever Hospital and 31 in the North-Eastern Hospital, all of which are under
the control of the Metropolitan Asylums Board.
In addition to these, 32 died in the University College Hospital, 11 in the
Middlesex Hospital, 51 in the Children's Hospital, Great Ormonde Street, 4 in
the Hospital for Women, Euston Road, 26 in the Metropolitan Hospital, n
in the German Hospital, 68 in St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 17 in the Chest
Hospital, 33 in the Royal Free Hospital, 10 in the City of London Lying-in
Hospital, 5 in the St. Pancras Infirmary, 2 in the St. Pancras Workhouse and
10 in the National Hospital, Queen's Square, and the remainder in the many
institutions that are set out in table LXX.
Within and without the Borough. Altogether the deaths of 1,581
persons belonging to Islington, out of the 4,955 persons who died and were
properly credited to the Borough, or 31.9 per cent, occurred in Public
Institutions situated either within or without the Borough.
Accidental and Sudden Deaths without the Borough.—Thirtyone
of these deaths occurred in the various London districts, and are set
out in Table LXX.).
The foregoing figures contrast with those of the ten preceding years as
shown in the next table, and are of interest.
