Tubercular Diseases. Tuberculosis of the Lungs or Phthisis, Tuberculosis
of the Brain, Tuberculosis of the Larynx, Tuberculosis of the Abdomen or Tabes
Mesenterica, and General Ttiberculosis.
Phthisis—Phthisis caused 438 deaths or 112 less than the corrected average
of the previous 11 years. The return is the lowest that has been recorded
during this period, and represents a mortality of 1.28per 1,000 of the inhabitants,
as against the average in the years stated of i*6i. The mortality from Phthisis
represents 8.84 of the deaths from all causes, which also is a reduction of 0.89
on the proportion in the eleven years.
