INFLUENZA.
Influenza, which in 1904 caused 48 deaths, in 1903 40 deaths, and which
showed a corrected average of 83 deaths in the 10 years 1895-1904, was
responsible for 54 deaths so that there was a decrease of 29 on the corrected
returns of the preceding decennium. The number of deaths registered in the
several quarters was respectively 26, 16, 3 and 9, each of which with the
exception of the 2nd quarter showed a decrease on the corresponding quarters
of the preceding ten years. The ages at death were as follows:—
0 to 5 years 5
5 „ 10 „ 0
15 „ 20 0
20 „ 25 „ —
25 „ 35 „ 3
35 „ 45 „ 5
45 „ 55 „ 7
55 „ 65 „ 9
65 ,, 75 „ 12
75 and upwards 13
In 49 out of the 54 cases secondary causes of death were registered ; thus
7 were ascribed to Bronchitis, 21 to Pneumonia, 2 to Meningitis, 1 to Paraplegia,
3 to Old Age, 10 to Heart Disease and 1 each to Convulsions, Tabes Mesenterica,
Rheumatism, Cerebral Softening, and Granular Kidney.
