Cesspools.—Last year it was remarked that notwithstanding the large
number of cesspools that have been abolished in past years, they still continue
to be found. They are come across at times most unexpectedly and are
always abolished. During the year 29 were discovered as against 47 in the
preceding year, and 43 in 1903, and were emptied and filled in.
Overcrowding.—The overcrowding discovered by the Inspectors was
not so great as in the preceding year, for only 111 cases were known, as
against 138 in 1904. In addition to these cases of the district Inspectors,
the Inspectors of Houses let in Lodgings had 67 similar nuisances abated,
making altogether 178 cases dealt with during the year.
Underground Rooms.—Only 40 underground rooms were found to be
in illegal occupation for sleeping purposes, as against 57 in the preceding year,
and with 25 in 1903, 48 in 1902, and 57 in 1901.
