The responsibility of disinfecting midwives, as well as verminous persons,
caused the Medical Officer of Health to present the following report to the
Committee, which was considered by them, with the result that they recommended
the Council to extend the Shelter House premises so as to provide the
necessary accommodation. The Council adopted their report and applied to
the Local Government Board for permission to borrow the money. The
Board, however, decided that the money could not be obtained under the
provisions of the Public Health (London) Act, and, therefore, did not
give their sanction to the scheme. The matter at present stands in abeyance,
but as the accommodation is much required it should be proceeded with
quickly, and paid for, if necessary, out of current expenditure.
The following is the report presented by the Medical Officer of Health on
the subject:—
