Medical Officer of Health
FOR THE YEAR 1905.
AREA, POPULATION AND DENSITY.
The several ratios relating to the vital statistics of the borough during the
year 1905, with which this report deals, have been calculated on the basis of
the figures which have been estimated by the Registrar General.
Population of the Borough—The estimate of the population has
been based on the census returns of 1891, 1896 and 1901. It is not possible
to say that this estimate is absolutely accurate, but in all probability it will
be found when another census has been taken that no serious error has been
made.
It had been expected that a Quinquennial Census would be taken this
year (1906) for the purposes of the equalisation of rates, but for some unknown
reason the enumeration has not been made, although the London County
Council have pressed the matter on the Government.
In 1901 it was ascertained that in every 1,000 of the population
108 were under 5 years of age.
