An important outbreak of scarlet fever occurred in the latter
half of the year in a boarding school in Hampstead. On August
29th I visited the school, which is a philanthropic institution, at
the request of the school doctor to examine a number of children
whom he suspected to be suffering from scarlet fever. On examining
these patients I found that nine were undoubtedly so suffering, and
these were immediately removed to hospital and the rooms they
had occupied thoroughly disinfected. Two of these patients were
taken ill on August 27th and the other seven on August 28th. I
