Of the 368 deaths of infants which took place in 1907, 100,
or 27 per cent., occurred in Institutions; 23 took place in Poor
Law Institutions, 75 in Hospitals, and 2 in Holloway Prison.
This by no means implies that the children had careful nursing
and attention during their last illness, for in many instances they
were not taken to the Hospital until in a dying condition, and in
some instances they arrived at the Hospital dead. Inquests
