HOUSES INFESTED WITH VERMIN.
Section 20 of the London County Council (General Powers)
Act, 1904, gives power to the sanitary authority to require the
cleansing of any house infested with vermin, and provides penalties
for default. Notices were served in respect of 77 rooms and
complied with.
CLEANSING OF VERMINOUS PERSONS.
A letter was received from the London County Council
drawing the attention of the Borough Council to the
London County Council (General Powers) Act, 1907,
with reference to the cleansing of verminous persons.
Section 30 of the Act gives power to the Medical Officer of
Health of the County or any other persons authorised by him
(a) to examine the person and clothing of any child attending
any London County Council school, to ascertain whether the
person or clothing of such child is infested with vermin or in a
filthy condition; (b) to require the parent or other person responsible
for such child to effect the cleansing and clothing of
the child within 24 hours' notice to that effect; and (c) in default
of such parent or responsible persons, to remove the child from
the school, and to cause its person or clothing to be properly
cleansed in suitable premises, and with suitable appliances, and
to detain there the child until the cleansing has been effected.
Section 37 contains similar provision with regard to the inmates
of any common lodging-house. Section 38 provides that the
London County Council or any Sanitary Authority may make
agreements as to the cleansing of such persons referred to, and
for the use of any premises or appliances adapted for such purpose
belonging to the Sanitary Authority.
Before making any definite arrangements to put the Act
in force, the County Council desired full information as to the
extent of the provision already existing in the borough, and the
facilities which the Borough Council would be prepared to afford
them in the matter.
